Kris, my great-great grandfather was David Hocker I believe he was the brother of William. David married Amanda Nien and lived in Philadelphia. Which person in the William photo is William? Sue

    1. Sue,
this is a different William Hocker. This William (my ancestor) was the son of Albert Curtin and Lillian (Leedy) Hocker, grandson of Levi and Anna (Frantz) Hocker, great grandson of George and Mary Magdalena (Landis) Hocker, and great great grandson of Johan Adam and Sophia Maria (Hershey) Hocker Jr. Johan Adam Hocker Jr. was the son of the immigrant Johan Adam Hacker and his wife Maria Elisabetha (Weidman) Hocker of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, our common ancestor.

Your gg grandfather David Hocker was the son of Jacob and Jane (Keplinger) Hocker Jr., grandson of Jacob and Elizabeth (___) Hocker, and great grandson of Johann Adam and Maria Elisabetha (Weidman) Hocker. I don’t have much on Jacob and Elizabeth (___) Hocker. He supposedly left Lancaster County after his father died—like his elder brothers Johannes, Christopher, Johan Adam, and Martin Hocker—and may have moved to Cumberland County (and possibly York County) prior to heading west to Ohio sometime after 1820. He supposedly died in Ohio on 8 Apr 1836. [History of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania] Jacob Jr. allegedly went to Ohio with him, but returned to Pennsylvania to settle in the Highspire area outside Harrisburg.
